Save Our Planet
With only 6% of the world's population, Americans generate 35% of the trash and consume 35%
of the world's resources.Less than 1% of Chinese cities have clean air. Respiratory disease
is the leading cause of death in China.About 45 per cent of India's land is degraded, air pollution
is increasing in all its cities, it is losing its rare plants and animals more rapidly than before
and about one-third of its urban population now lives in slums.Between 1,000 and 40,000 tons of
radioactive waste are produced for every ton of marketable uranium.
Terrorism
Terrorism has become a global concern as there is hardly any part of the world that is not
directly or indirectly affected by terrorist activities .The number of attacks globally
grew to about 655 last year, up from the record of around 175 in 2003, according to
congressional aides who were briefed on statistics covering incidents including the
bloody school seizure in Russia and violence related to the disputed Indian territory of Kashmir.
Terrorist incidents in Iraq also dramatically increased, from 22 attacks to 198,
or nine times the previous year's total.
Health Issues
One billion people lack access to health care systems.Around 11 million children under the age
of 5 die from malnutrition and mostly preventable diseases, each year.In 2002, almost 11 million
people died of infectious diseases alone, far more than the number killed in the natural or
man-made catastrophes that make headlines. (These are the latest figures presented by the
World Health Organization.).32.8 million living with HIV.2.5 million new infections of HIV.
2 million deaths from AIDS
Global Financial Crisis
The global financial crisis, brewing for a while, really started to show its effects in the middle
of 2007 and into 2008. Around the world stock markets have fallen, large financial institutions have
collapsed or been bought out, and governments in even the wealthiest nations have had to come up with
rescue packages to bail out their financial systems. On the one hand many people are concerned that those
responsible for the financial problems are the ones being bailed out, while on the other hand, a global
financial meltdown will affect the livelihoods of almost everyone in an increasingly inter-connected world
